July 12th was a special day for both our family and LaShaye's family! We had the privilege of all working together at what will soon be LaShaye's new home. We worked side-by-side and all got to know each other. LaShaye was with 2 of her sons as well as her Godmother and her Aunt. Kevin, Laurie, Katie, Holly, Bryan, and their son Vincent were also on site. It was great having Vincent with us! He recently turned 16 and although he has been coming to the openings of our Brian Kimble Days since he was 6 months old, this was the first time he was old enough to work on the site with us.
One group was outside installing the posts for the backyard fence. This was no easy task on a day with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees! The corner posts were extremely difficult. The group had to dig down two feet through many rocks and tree roots using post hole diggers, shovels and a pick axe. The side posts were pounded in. With all their hard work they were able to get all the posts in as well as cement in the corner posts.
Meanwhile the inside crew was very busy caulking the baseboards, window and door frames, spackling and doing some touch-up painting both inside and outside. Kevin also installed the backsplashes on the bathroom counters.
It was very exciting to see some of the other progress that has been ongoing at the house:
Kitchen cabinets and countertop have been installed and look great!
Bathroom fixtures are all in place now and there is running water!
Shed has been erected in the back yard.
The front entrance is clearly marked as '42' and a mailbox has been mounted! Thank you Habitat For Humanity for all the little touches you do!
